Remember: most people are not born with their behavioural disorders. They develop it/them during the course of their lives with the most vulnerable period to develop a personality disorder being during childhood/adolescence.
If you deprive a child of the emotional shield and stimuli they need to grow into a healthy adult, they'll most likely develop an anomaly in the part of their brain that regulates emotions.
Except a child is a psychopath, no child is born without the ability to be empathetic. Human beings are naturally empathetic. We need empathy in order to thrive as a species as we heavily depend on one another to survive. Besides being among the weakest in the animal kindgom, our evolutionary traits have not reached the point where we can rely on our body to regenerate and repair itself.
Even people who are not programmed to be social beings still end up being forced to integrate into the society, since, on their own, they'd suffer and perish.
No one is disputing the fact this fourteen year old girl is exhibiting a behavioural disorder. However, unless you can prove that she has been like that from birth, there is no way I'll condemn her totally.
Cyntoia Brown was given a life sentence when she was sixteen. She murdered a man who had paid to have sex with her while he was sleeping. She was sold into sex trafficking at a young age. But this year she was granted clemency, and, after serving fifteen years in jail, she was released.
We should strive to rehabilitate kids instead of throwing them away. As a society we need to do better.
That little girl will grow up, have her own kids and continue with the cycle of abuse and violence.
The bullies who tormented us and the parents who abused us were not always like that. They too were tossed away when they started acting damaged and broken. Then they grew up to become the monsters that we know today.
We need to start caring about the emotional well being of our children. It's not enough to teach boys how to make money and girls how to look after their future husbands. Everybody must learn how to take care of themselves so that they can in return take care of other people.
Enough with the partial upbringing. It's time to make it 360°.
