If you have read previous posts on this blog, then you should know, or at least have an idea of what differentiates character from personality.
For those who know, but want to have a quick reminder, personality is a person's patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, while character is the set of moral values that a person possesses.
For those, instead, who have just started reading my posts, I will provide links in the comment section, so you can catch up on my old posts and have a better understanding of the subject. There are also interesting tests you can take.
Before you read this post, have this in mind. What Nigerians call character is actually attitude and attitude is heavily influenced by a person's personality. I do not follow Nigerian's definitions. I follow universal definitions.
I mentioned in my previous posts that good looks give you the power of choice. But that is just on a sexual level. When it comes to establishing an intimate relationship with another person, other factors come into play. These factors are personality and character.
---------------------
1. Looks is the first thing people notice.
When we talk about love at first sight, what we really mean is attraction at first sight, and, unfortunately, a lot of people will never be the object of a first time attraction.
Even though there is a saying that goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", there are people who are objectively attractive and people who are objectively unattractive. Then there are those who just wander in the middle.
Now I can't tell you what group is the highest in number, but given that there are almost eight billion people in the world, and that roughly half of them are adults, we can say that no matter what aesthetic preference you have, you have a few millions of options, even though you might not fit into their own specifications.
It is important and encouraged for people to invest in their appearance. Even if you are not a looker, dress nice and always look presentable. Nature might have made you hard on the eye, but give nature the middle finger and use your human resources and inventions to boost your attractiveness.
2. Personality is what keeps people interested.
A great personality goes a long way, even when you are not the best looking person around.
Personality determines your level of confidence, your sociability and your ability to relate on an individual level and within a group.
Unlike what most people think, there are no types of personalities for men, or types of personalities for women. Men are more likely to be aggressive, due to their high level of testosterone, but women, too, can engage in aggressive behaviours under duress, since women too produce testosterone, even though in a much more limited quantity.
Another common notion that we must debunk is the idea that the most aggressive members of a group also possess the most dominant personalities.
Whether or not your personality is domineering or submissive has nothing to do with your level of aggression or your sex. It is a lot more complex than that and I haven't got the competence or knowledge to dive into the subject. But there are many tests online you can take to see what type of personality you have.
Again, personality is subjective, so there is no way to tell who has a bad personality or who has a good personality. A personality might appear boring to you and, instead, appear enticing to someone else. Whereas the kind of personality you find enticing might be deemed over the top by another person.
3. Character will put people's interest under test.
Personality manifests almost immediately. You can tell a person's personality after a few interactions, in public and in private. Character, however, can take a lifetime to manifest.
People cannot fake their personality, but people can fake their character. I can pretend to be honest, patient and compassionate just to achieve a goal.
Many times people fall in love with a person's personality and become utterly disgusted by that same person after getting a glimpse of his or her character.
Character is essentially who a person is and getting to know a person for they are would require you to observe that person attentively and never miss out any details. Nobody has got time for that.
Also, when you are attracted to someone, you become skewed and partial in your judgement.
Now, there is no manual on how to get know a person deeply and in the shortest amount of time.
I mean who wants to date someone for three years, only find out that he or she is a total cunt? Worse, if you are married to him or her.
However I can give you these clues.
A. Observe how they treat people who have nothing to offer them.
B. Observe how they treat people who are beneath them.
C. Observe how they behave during a transaction (a transaction is any situation that requires someone to give up something in order to obtain another thing).
D. Observe how they handle rejections, disappointments and betrayals.
Generally speaking Nigerian men and women do not have good characters. While the women might manage to have a mediocre character, the men are good with having a very poor character. But somehow it still works.
It's a man's right to misbehave, while it is a woman's duty to forgive.
----------------
Curiosity: looks can make up for a bad character, but looks cannot make up for a boring personality.
If you are not that attractive, invest in your personality and work on your character. People are more unforgiving towards ugly people.
If you are good looking, you can just work on your personality and neglect your character. You will still get laid and even fake it long enough to get married.
----------------
In conclusion your personality is what matters the most. Your character only matters if you are poor and ugly.
