STOP LETTING A MAN'S STATUS DICTATE YOURS

A while ago, I read a post where a man had demanded that his wife to be dropped her title of doctor on their wedding invites as it made him look bad. Stupid as it may sound, many people saw reason with him.

I wonder who that man is and why he believed that he had the right to make such a request.

This is a screenshot of an interview with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. Chan was addressed with her title which she rightfully earned after 7-8 years of higher education. She doesn't even bear her husband's surname.

In Nigeria, her name would have been completely obliterated and replaced with just Mr and Mrs Mark Zuckerberg.

It's important for women to maintain their identity throughout their lifetime. Stop losing yourselves in the name of marriage.

Mark is Jewish, but Priscilla is not claiming to be a Jew by the virtue of marriage. She didn't convert to Judaism either.

She's Dr Priscilla Chan and she's very comfortable with her own identity as an Asian American woman.

Being married to the 7th richest person in the world will never change that.
