Discrimination as a cultural phenomenon will always continue to exist across the world because people will always have preferences and opinions based on ignorance and misinformation. But what we can do to curb it, is to create institutions that will uphold equality for everybody irrespective of our biological and social differences. For example, the west has managed in the course of centuries - through wars, revolutions, protests, marches - to create laws that have stopped discrimination from becoming systematic.
When discrimination finds its way into our parliaments and courtrooms, what we witness are horrific forms of injustice that should never happen in a supposed civilised world like ours: apartheid, genocide, segregation, holocaust, etc.
The state has one important obligation: to protect, rule and judge her citizens with objectivity and impartiality because if the state allows the fear and the opinions of the masses to rule, we will end up with chaos and Nigeria.
So, while we tackle issues inside the society with the attempt to change mindset and trigger a psychological and social revolution, we also need to push our representatives into the system.
We can start by creating an association. I'm not talking about Women's Affair or all those NGOs. I'm talking about an association that is aimed strictly and uniquely at politics. Most feminists are people who are academically and professionally accomplished. We have the resources to finance this kind of association and we have the knowledge required to conquer the system.
Remember the Suffragettes? They had a name and a purpose. And they went for it.
Our purpose: win seats for feminists in parliament.
We need to do this. We need to focus on one goal, nail it and start working our way from there.
This is how badly I want a change and I want to know that you want it badly too.
