To say I'm flabbergasted that a supposed lawyer does not comprehend the difference between equity and equality is an understatement. So, I have decided to come up with this simple illustration to show some of the forms of inequality that exist today.
To say that equity would solve ALL of our problems is not only ignorant, it is also very stupid. Equity means that there is a form of disability that is preventing the citizen from reaching their potentials and such impairment can be caused by a:
- Physical disability;
- Mental disability;
- Financial disability.
GENDER AND RACE ARE NOT DISABILITIES.
Pay attention to the last part of my illustration and see why it is only in this case that equity comes into play. As you can see, the elderly, the disabled and the children are not recognised as ACTIVE citizens.
Children: Being a child can be considered a disability if you think of children as citizens who do not have the mental capacity to make responsible decisions.
Poor: The citizen is financially impaired, so they cannot access certain services.
Old or Handicapped: These people are either physically or mentally incapable of making decisions so they need extra help.
Ways to eliminate equity include free education, free healthcare, meritocracy, scholarships, affirmative actions, etc.
BUT ELIMINATING EQUITY WON'T ELIMINATE INEQUALITY.
And if you are a lawyer and you still don't understand this, then your are an IDIOT. Your degree is wasted and you should use it to wipe your ass after pooping.
