You see those people who make statements like, “I don’t want to be called an influencer. Influencers are ego-driven clowns who live for drama and social media validation. And I’m too nice and too peaceful to be one”? They don’t sound sensible.
I place them in the same category as those women who distance themselves from the feminist tag because feminists have a bad reputation online.
Influencer and feminism are not personality or character traits. The former is a social media status, while the other is an ideology. If you meet their respective requirements, you will become one and you will be treated as one, whether you like it or not.
If you have a large following whose behaviours and thoughts are shaped by your online posts, you are an influencer.
If you believe that men and women are entitled to equal rights, access, and opportunities, you are a feminist.
Stop acting like an ignorant vagabond. You have a home. Settle down and enjoy the benefits of reaching a financial or mental milestone.
Besides, you can choose the kind of influencer that you want to be. It all depends on your attitude and goals. Many times popular people don’t go looking for drama. Drama comes looking for them. Those moments in which drama will come looking for you will serve as a test of your character. If you really think that you are too good for drama, prove it. Become that popular person that does not involve himself or herself in any.
Because oga and madam, you like am or you nor like am, when you get to that stage of social media fame, you will earn the tag of an influencer, then it will be left to you to choose how you intend to make use of your new found privilege.
