A person who makes N500,0000 in Nigeria is well to do. A person who earns the equivalent of $1000 in America is poor.
For anybody to be able to raise N30,000,000 and buy a property with it in Nigeria, then that person is doing extremely well. In America, you can afford only a dilapidated building with $60,000.
In 2019, Mercy Eke bought a house for N75,000,000. That was when $1 was about N330. In America, you cannot buy that kind of house that Mercy bought in Nigeria for $220,000. LIKE NEVER. But Mercy is rich and successful based on Nigeria standards, and yes, to me, that is worth bragging about.
Look at the two pictures and you can see the difference clearly. You can get a modern three-bedroom bungalow for N30,000,000 in the economic capital of Lagos. While in America, the best you can get is a bungalow that was built in the early 1900s in far-away Alabama.
So before you come out to brag about owning properties in Nigeria, show us the ones that you have managed to buy abroad. And before you shame a person for receiving an investment of "just" N30,000,000 to start off a business, remember the difference in currencies, GDP, and purchasing power.
And one last thing: if you are living abroad and all the properties you own are back home in your native country, then something is wrong somewhere. It is either you are not financially smart, you have a lot of illegal money that you cannot spend without attracting suspicion from the IRS, or you are not making enough money to buy properties in the country where you live.
